eBay UK Free Returns for Parts and Accessories June 2026
eBay UK has announced a significant policy change for sellers in the parts and accessories category, introducing mandatory free returns for eligible listings from 8 June 2026. The update, which eBay is calling Easy and Free Returns, requires sellers to offer at least a 30-day free return period for buyer change-of-mind returns on qualifying listings, and comes with a 50 percent return label subsidy to help offset the additional cost.
What Is Changing and Who It Affects
From 8 June 2026, sellers listing parts and accessories on eBay UK will be required to offer free 30-day returns for buyer remorse on listings that meet all of the following criteria. The item must be located in the UK and sold to a UK buyer. The item price must be over £10 excluding postage. The item must be listed in new or new-other condition. And the listing must use the Buy It Now fixed-price format.
The policy change does not apply to private sellers, who are exempt from the mandatory free returns requirement. Business sellers with eligible listings that do not currently meet the policy requirement will have their listings updated automatically by eBay before the June 8 deadline. New listings that are not compliant will also be adjusted or kept from going live until they meet the requirements.
The 50 Percent Return Label Subsidy
To support sellers with the additional cost of offering free returns, eBay will cover 50 percent of eligible return label costs for buyer change-of-mind returns on qualifying listings. The subsidy applies automatically when an eBay return label is used and all eligibility conditions are met. Sellers will be responsible for the remaining 50 percent of the label cost and any applicable surcharge fees.
It is important to note that the subsidy only applies when an eBay return label is used. For returns where no eBay label is available, sellers will be required to provide the return label themselves. Returns where the item is not as described, such as items damaged in transit, continue to be handled in line with existing eBay policies and are not covered by the subsidy.
Sellers who already offer 30-day free returns on eligible listings will automatically qualify for the 50 percent subsidy without needing to make any changes to their listings.
What Is Excluded From the Policy
The mandatory free returns requirement and the 50 percent subsidy do not apply to a range of excluded categories and listing types. Items excluded from the policy include heavy and bulky items, tyres and tyre and wheel packages, batteries and hazardous materials including lithium batteries and oils, local collection only listings, listings using freight shipping, items in used condition, auctioned items, international orders where the buyer or seller is outside the UK, and non-business seller listings.
A detailed list of excluded categories covering cars, motorcycles, ATVs, lorries, and other vehicle types is available in Appendix A of eBay's official policy page in the Seller Centre.
Can Sellers Opt Out?
No. From 8 June 2026, free 30-day returns will be mandatory on all eligible listings in the parts and accessories categories covered by this update. Sellers cannot opt out of the requirement on qualifying listings, though they retain the choice of how they send return labels to buyers, either using an eBay return label or their own.
How This Interacts With eBay Assured Fit
Easy and Free Returns operates in parallel with eBay's existing Assured Fit policy. If an item does not fit the buyer's vehicle, eBay will cover the full cost of return shipping under the Assured Fit programme. Easy and Free Returns covers change-of-mind returns separately, meaning both policies can apply to the same listing depending on the reason for the return.
What Sellers Need to Do Before 8 June 2026
Sellers in the parts and accessories category should review their listings before the June 8 deadline to ensure that eligible listings are offering at least 30-day free returns. While eBay will automatically update non-compliant listings, it is advisable for sellers to review their own settings rather than relying on eBay to make changes on their behalf, particularly for listings where the return policy has commercial implications that the seller wants to manage directly.
Sellers who use eBay return labels for their returns will begin receiving the 50 percent subsidy automatically on eligible listings once the policy takes effect, with no additional action required to receive it.
