eBay GARAN Durability Guarantee Label: What EU Sellers Must Know

eBay is introducing support for the Commercial Guarantee of Durability label, known as the GARAN label, on eligible listings from business sellers targeting consumers in the EU. The change is driven by EU Directive 2024/825 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, which become enforceable on 27 September 2026, and it gives sellers a clear, standardised way to show buyers that a product is backed by a long-term durability guarantee from its producer.

What Is Changing

eBay has added a new item specific called Durability Guarantee to eligible categories. It accepts a whole number between 3 and 99, representing the number of years of commercial guarantee offered by the producer. The GARAN label will only appear on a listing when three item specifics are present together: the Durability Guarantee value, the Brand, and the Model. If any one of those three is missing, the label will not be shown.

Who Should Use It

The Durability Guarantee field is voluntary, and it should only be used when the producer genuinely offers a commercial guarantee of durability that covers the entire product, free of charge, for more than two years. It is not a seller warranty and it is not a place to promote an extended returns policy. Adding it without a genuine producer guarantee behind it creates regulatory risk, so check with your suppliers or brand owners before filling it in.

If You List Directly on eBay

For sellers who create listings through the standard eBay listing form or Seller Hub rather than a third party tool, the process is simple. In eligible categories, Durability Guarantee will appear alongside your other item specifics when you create or edit a listing. Enter the number of years of guarantee the producer offers, and make sure Brand and Model are also filled in accurately. Once all three are in place, the GARAN label will show on your listing automatically from 27 September.

If you do not see the Durability Guarantee field, either your category is not eligible or the field has not yet rolled out, so check again after 24 September. For existing listings, you will need to revise each eligible listing to add the new item specific, so it is worth prioritising your best-selling products that carry a producer guarantee first.

If You Use Third Party Tools or APIs

No schema changes are being made to any eBay APIs. The Durability Guarantee aspect is added in the same way as any other item specific, through the ItemSpecifics container in the Trading API or the product.aspects array in the Inventory API. Eligible categories can be checked using fetchItemAspects for bulk lookups or getItemAspectsForCategory for a single category, with the aspect expected to appear from around 24 September 2026. Aspect names are localised on non-English eBay marketplaces, so tools that map aspects by name should account for translated versions. If you rely on a listing tool, confirm with your provider that it will pass the new field through before the deadline.

Key Dates

The new field is expected to become available from around 24 September 2026, and on 27 September 2026 the regulation becomes enforceable and the GARAN label goes live on eligible listings that include all three item specifics.

Why It Matters

Beyond meeting a regulatory requirement, the GARAN label gives sellers of genuinely durable products a visible trust signal at the point of purchase. For buyers comparing similar items across multiple sellers, a clearly displayed multi-year durability guarantee is a meaningful reason to choose one listing over another, and it rewards sellers who keep their product data accurate and complete.

What Sellers Should Do Now

Confirm with your suppliers or brand owners whether your products carry a qualifying producer guarantee of more than two years. Make sure Brand and Model are filled in accurately on every eligible listing. After 24 September, add the Durability Guarantee value to qualifying listings, either through the listing form or your tool, and check that the label displays as expected once it goes live on 27 September.
